I used to be a brown-rice-only green diva, but over the last few years, I sometimes enjoy quality organic white rice. While there is some controversy over what rice is best (white v. brown), there are probably reasons to occasionally eat both providing they are from good quality sources. Wellness Mama does a great job of laying out the pros and cons of each in this post “Is White Rice Healthy?“
For me it was partly my own digestion issues, partly the arsenic being discovered in high doses—even organic brown rice—and partly because good organic white rice seemed readily available. My local grocery store (Kings) is now stocking their own line of organic products (Kings Own), including some good jasmine white rice.

Here’s my go-to, uber-easy rice recipe for organic basmati, which goes with almost anything!
Garlic Lemon Rice
Ingredients
1 cup good quality organic basmati rice
2 cups filtered water
juice of 1/2 lemon
2 – 4 cloves garlic crushed
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/8 teaspoon good sea salt (or to taste)
Instructions
Put all the ingredients in a good saucepan with a tight lid, and stir it up on high heat until it boils actively. Once boiling, turn the burner down to low and fit the lid on tight. Leave it alone for 20 minutes—no peeking. After 20 mins, open and fluff and voila, perfectly delicious rice!
