“Don’t overeat due to an old habit. Don’t undereat due to some regime.” – Godfrey Devereux
Detoxette. noun. diːtɒks.ette/a relatively small use of mindfulness at any given time and any season, particularly the summer, in which one chooses the most nutritional options without blowing a mental gasket or bolting the refrigerator door shut in order to support the the body’s ability to rid itself of toxic or unhealthy substances; detoxification; detox.
So you thought the only way to detox your body this summer was to chug green smoothies for seven days straight or to book an expensive trip to a tropical island in order to clean out your bowels.
Tsk! Tsk!
It’s actually possible to detox the body on a daily basis without having to 1) starve yourself, 2) get on an airplane, or 3) become a recluse.
Here’s how:
1. Take the time to meditate.
To detox is both a physical and mental thing.
Taking the time to be with just yourself can have tremendous transformational affects on the mind and body—and help you to stay focused on what is really important. It only takes a no-excuses ten-minutes a day commitment to transform a stagnant mind to a vibrant one.
2. Eat more raw fruits and veggies.
The warmer temperatures are a perfect time to cool, detox and clean the body with local, organic and fresh produce.
Fruits and veggies are not only juicy and delicious but, to say the least, are full of nutrients, Vitamin-C, antioxidants and fiber—fiber that promotes a gentle and healthy cleansing of your intestines.
Say “yes” to apples, pears, strawberries, blackberries, watermelon, carrots, cabbage, beets and Brussels sprouts this summer!
3. Don’t forget your greens.
Eat something green and leafy every single day. Nibble on chlorophyll-packed greenies like spinach, kale, romaine or even blue green algae, all provide essential nutrients, energy and help to remove toxins from your digestive tract.

4. Water—drink lots of it!
Water always finds a way! Water helps our system not only function optimally but aids in the flushing out of toxic residue. Drink and let it all…come…out.
5. Get moving.
Exercise first thing in the morning before any creative excuses become an obstacle. Move your body in a way that feels intelligent and good for you—walk, jog, do yoga, go to an aerobics class, take a bike ride.
Exercising not only helps detox the body but it boosts your mood and energy levels. Not to mention it’s fun!
6. Take a class or workshop.
This is especially helpful if you’re feeling unmotivated. Ride the waves of a full class of eager or mostly eager human bodies. Remember, the worst part is getting there. You’re always thankful you did it in the end.
7. Clean the pollution out of your heart.
Before you sleep each night place your left hand on the center of your chest. Place your right hand on top of your left. Inhaling through the nose, breathe-in positive intentions, love and peace.
Breathe it right into the space of your chest center. Fill your lungs completely. Make your inhales full. Exhale negativity either out through the nose or mouth, as it feels best to you. Empty the lungs completely. Relax unnecessary tension. Repeat as many times as you’d like.
Don’t forget to change your toothbrush and your sheets—it’s probably that time.
Live these detoxettes one-by-one or all together for maximum well-being and awesomeness.
Have an amazing rest of your summer!
