We’re three months into 2021 – how are your New Year’s resolutions faring? (If you have any) It’s easy to let intentions for the year fall to the wayside when the hustle and bustle of life picks up(or pandemics and other weirdness happens), but there’s much to be said about re-evaluating goals, resetting intentions, and reenergizing your journey – whatever that journey may be.
As we head into spring, it’s a perfect time to take stock and see how we are doing with personal goals. Read on for tips on setting intentions that will help you make life the best it can be for the rest of this year.
Start by making a list (or reviewing the one you may have already started earlier in the year) of all of the things you would like to accomplish. First give yourself a high-five for all that you have done so far! From there, highlight the top ten things you’d like to continue working on, and then narrow down this list by selecting your ultimate five remaining goals. If the goals you’ve chosen are realistic, consider focusing on these as spring intentions. But don’t get stressed about it! If it feels like too much, just take one or two and do your best.
Make a calendar or a daily journal
After clarifying your goals, make a calendar that outlines a rough schedule of steps to achieve these goals. Perhaps consider a weekly schedule that will offer a roadmap to follow. For example, if the intention is to lose ten pounds in three or four months, maybe a food log, writing daily meals and snacks on the calendar or in a journal will help. Checking off days on a calendar as you fulfill your daily goals can feel really good, and keeping a calendar helps keep you accountable — at least to yourself.
Establish Goal Milestones
Set yourself up for mini rewards! Yay you! Create a list of milestones that mark progress in achieving goals. For example, if you are trying to finish a home remodeling project, you can divide the project into steps such as tile the new backsplash, install new sinks, finish painting, etc. As you cross off these things, you will see that your overall goal of completing your home project is possible. Separating goals into smaller, more manageable tasks is a great way to get more done in a shorter amount of time.
