The backstory.
When I started Relevant Times magazine back in 1991, all I wanted to do was create a vehicle for a scattered community of people who didn’t have a clear identity, but knew they wanted to live differently—more consciously. Not new age, but pretty enlightened. Into “holistic” health, but more than just that. Not necessarily Birkenstock-wearing tree huggers, but definitely concerned about the earth. It was about an inclusive way of being that underscored how our actions today impact future generations and the earth at an alarming accelerated pace.
I found out there were a lot of people with a lot to say on these concepts that mainstream media just wasn’t ready to give attention to. No one used the phrase “green living,” and the word “sustainability” hadn’t been tossed around in the cultural salad too much at that time.
This dream wavered a bit in fits and starts, but no matter how hard I tried to put it down and walk away and live a normal life—get a job, be a mom—it just found its way back in. Much like an addiction, media/publishing/producing is a relentless master that no amount of effort in a “real” job could fix. I eventually always ended up driven to this madness, the madness now known as GDGD Radio.
The first green radio network.
Green Diva Lynn Hasselberger is in this waking dream with me and the switch is turned ON and we’re like obsessed green divas running around with our green hair on fire, giggling and writing crazy haikus on the fly with intervals of wild productivity.
Yup. THIS is the image you will have of what it’s like to start the first green radio network. Doesn’t sound all that healthy, but trust us we’re doubling up on smoothies, yoga, and organic veggie juice.
We’ve been floored by the response of the wonderful shows that have enthusiastically joined up—even in our beta BETA version. Talented hosts and shows with messages we admire so much like Mariel Hemingway and Bobby William’s Running with Nature, Earth Matters with Bill Kurtis, The Mike Nowak Show, Mrs. Green’s World, GVK: Good Vibrations with Kristin, The Lanada Williams Show, Yale Climate Connections and others. Wow. We’re humbled, profoundly grateful and beyond busy making it all happen! (Of course, The Green Divas Radio Show is on the network, too.)
Lest we go completely mad, we have decided to put ourselves out there and trust that you’ll see this vision of a digital radio network dedicated to airing the best audio content out there.

We need your support.
In order to launch this in a big way, we need to hire a team of geeks and designers to get this platform operating seamlessly. We’ll need to cover marketing and promotion expenses.
And we really can’t do it alone. That’s why we started a crowd-funding campaign, which is a way to raise funds with the help of fans like you!
You’ll enjoy fun rewards when you contribute to our campaign at FundGDGD.com! Choose from organic totes and “Green I Am” tees… to social media shout-outs… even an Honorary Executive Producer credit on our show! New, exciting rewards are added regularly.
Our success will not only rely on people donating (every dollar counts!), but sharing the campaign across the social media universe and by email to family and friends.
Please help us give a greater voice to the best green and healthy living shows out there. You know you want to. What are you waiting for?
If you’re on twitter, please follow @RadioGDGD and tweet this as often as possible:
