Get ready to sit at the edge of your seat as this six month old baby elephant is washed away while crossing over river.
The Green Divas love all wild animals. If you do, too—and especially if you’re a mama (or papa)—you’ll find yourself holding your breath. Hang in there and just remember to breathe…
This incredible baby elephant rescue footage by Kicheche Laikipia guest Sandy Gelderman filmed on one of her safaris in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
Kicheche silver guide Onesmus Lesiata, spotted the herd approaching the rain-swollen Ewaso Nyiro river. With the river deep, mountain high banks are never easy for adults, let alone a six month old calf, so being washed away in the current was a very real possibility. Thankfully mum and her emergency swat team enacted a remarkable rescue. They say elephants can remember, well this little calf will remember this advanced swimming lesson for the rest of its life, as will Sandy.

Elephants need our help. Had to imagine someone brutally killing us so they can rip out our teeth, but that is the equivalent of what is happening to thousands of elephants. Musician and activist Wynne Paris is doing something about it. He is part of a new effort Africa ASAP (Ariel Surveillance Against Poaching), which will utilize dirigibles to keep poachers from killing elephants.
Please listen to this Green Divas Heart Wildlife episode with Wynne. Please get involved.

Elephants are precious. It saddens me to hear how they are killed for their tusks.
