DIY Recipes: Staying Beautiful in Our Toxic World

We try as best we can to avoid, but must still be wary of what I call the bad boys and serial killers.

Genetically modified crops, foods heavily sprayed with pesticides and herbicides, meat full of antibiotics and hormones, and air and water pollution continuously assault our bodies.

Most homes, schools, and offices are built with chemically treated lumber and materials, and decorated with carpets and furniture treated with toxic chemicals. Even the flimsy receipt from the supermarket is treated with a toxic chemical linked to cancer. Our lives are filled with electronic devices that contain toxic heavy metals and have screens that emit eye-damaging blue light.

Processed foods and products may be convenient, but even the healthy ones can contain chemicals linked to everything from cancer to allergies, including hyperactivity, autism, and tumors, according to researchers at the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI).

Common preservatives are linked to liver and kidney damage, growth retardation, and cancer.

The worst part is that food manufacturers are mainly self-regulating. As consumers, we’re left to trust the food conglomerates of America to decide our food safety without oversight. Foods bearing the phrase “natural flavors,” for example, can contain toxins that can harm your health, yet most people see that deceiving phrase and believe the product is good for them.

DIY recipes to help you stay beautiful…

Below are two of my favorite DIY beauty recipes to keep your skin (your body’s largest elimination organ, after all!) clear and open to release any accumulated toxins.

Wild Orange Facial Scrub
This scrub is made up of cleansing and moisturizing ingredients that supports your skin. Raw honey is naturally antibacterial and moisturizing. The finely ground almonds moisturize your skin with their natural oil while helping to gently exfoliate. Sweet almond oil is high in A and B vitamins. It’s also naturally moisturizing. The wild orange essential oil is uplifting and cleansing.

  1. 3 tbsp raw honey
  2. 3 tbsp finely ground almonds (use a food processor or a coffee grinder that’s not used for coffee)
  3. 3 tbsp sweet almond oil
  4. 5 drops wild orange essential oil
  1. Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and mix thoroughly. Smooth a thin layer over your face and then gently rub it off with an organic cotton wash- cloth, using a circular motion.
The Green Divas
Lavender Detox Bath
Dead sea salts are rich in minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sulfur.The mixture helps detoxify the body by pulling toxins out and adding in essential minerals. Baking soda softens the skin and neutralizes your body’s acidity, while lavender is calming and relaxing to the mind and body. This detox bath is a great way to end your day.

  1. 1 Cup Dead Sea Salts
  2. 1 Cup Baking Soda
  3. 10 drops Lavender Essential oil
  1. Add the ingredients to the water in a hot bath. Swish them around with your hands to mix them into the water.
