If you are on Pinterest, you’ve probably seen a million images of various DIY holiday mason jar cookie and cocoa mixes. I made a trip to Michaels for some other supplies and saw some very cool blue mason jars on sale. So, after a little research and some inspiration from our chocolatier friend, David Wolfe, I came up with this vegan hot cocoa mix, and if I say so myself, O.M.G. it is divine!
And because I used a couple of unusual ingredients, like cayenne pepper and maca powder, it is a bit healthier, has an amazing flavor (not spicy just has extra depth). Maca powder is said to help boost libido and help mood swings for women — helloooooooo!? All a green diva needs this holiday season!
Green Diva Meg’s Vegan Hot Cocoa Mix
3 cups quality natural sugar
2 cups cacao powder (I used Navitas Naturals Organic Raw Chocolate Powder)
2 tsps maca powder (I used Navitas Naturals Organic Maca Powder)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp vanilla bean powder (stuff isn’t cheap, but it is awesome! Sun Food Vanilla Powder)
1/4 tsp good sea salt (I used Himala Salt)
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
Natural, vegan marshmallows
NOTE: Makes enough to fill half a dozen medium sized mason jars with room for marshmallows on top
Mix up all the dry ingredients (everything but the marshmallows) in a big mixing bowl. Whisk it together good, and use a spoon if you need to mash up the cacao powder balls.
Load up your jars leaving room at the top for some marshmallows.
Have fun making tags and decorating your jars.
Make sure to give them instructions for making individual servings of this crazy delicious hot cocoa, which is:
2 – 3 Tablespoons hot cocoa mix
heat up your favorite vegan milk (I used an almond/coconut milk blend – REALLY really good!)
Make sure to make yourself a stash! and sit in front of the fire with your feet up, your favorite book and enjoy!
