To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.
~ Audrey Hepburn
Summer is rapidly approaching and the perfect gardening weather is just around the corner. Over the colder months, our gardens can often become neglected and when the sunshine finally gets here, we’re left with a rather messy outdoor space that we can’t enjoy.
That’s why now is the perfect time to get out and give your outside space a much needed, eco-friendly makeover. Get rid of the clutter and get planting — creating a space that is both sustainable and enjoyable. Get a head-start on your eco-friendly garden now!
Composting
Composting is a great way to get rid of food waste and create nutrient-rich soil for your plants and
vegetables. It’s easy to start your own compost heap; Simply buy a small and discreet compost bin and place it in a secluded corner of your garden. Some people like to hide their compost bins and heaps behind a screening, to keep their outdoor area looking clean and tidy.
Most natural waste, like vegetable and fruit cuttings and peelings, teabags and grass cuttings, can be thrown on the compost heap to decompose. The best way to know what to put on the compost heap is to only put on items that have been grown e.g. tea plants, carrots, grass and apple cores.
Vegetable patch
Growing your own vegetables can be extremely fun. Having your own little vegetable patch can also help you get out into the garden if you don’t usually get green fingers.
Choose an area of your garden that gets a decent amount of sunlight throughout the day. If you can also keep them away from other plants, you’ll be able to better ward off slugs and other vegetable munching insects.
Make sure to mix in some of your homemade compost into the soil. This will give your vegetables a nutritious kick and give them a better chance at thriving.
Getting rid of garden waste
If your garden needs a complete overhaul, strip it right down to its bare bones, then make sure you’re disposing of your garden waste in an eco-friendly manner. If you’re going to be clearing out your entire garden, the normal green waste bin may not be enough. Hire a professional garden clearance company, such as Envirowaste, to help do all the heavy lifting for you.
These professional waste clearance companies can help to remove domestic waste in a sustainable and eco-friendly way, so you don’t have to worry about hiring a skip or trying to stuff it all in a wheelie bin.
Getting out into your garden and showing it some love has a world of physical and mental benefits. Not only can it help give you a space to switch off, relax and focus on something natural and organic, but it can also provide your home with homegrown food, free from chemicals and pesticides.
