Earth Day & EVERYDAY…
59% of businesses implement one or more energy efficient practices
That’s an encouraging statistic, but we still have a long way to go. This Earth Day, Staples released a sustainability study* that found the statistic above along with other findings relating to having a more eco-friendly office and business.
Another intriguing statistic finds that while 74% of consumers recycle containers made of glass, metal or plastic, only 51% recycle electronics at the end of their life. Staples – no slouch when it comes to sustainable business practices as evidenced by their recent 8th consecutive ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award – has demonstrated a commitment to helping raise this number by offering free electronics recycling all year round. In 2016, Staples (the only retailer to offer completely free year-round electronics recycling), helped customers recycle more than 25 million pounds of office technology and sold more than $4 billion in products with environmental features globally.
In celebration of Earth Week (April 16 – April 22), Staples is sweetening the deal by offering Staples Rewards members who recycle old electronics in-store a coupon for $10 off their next purchase of $30 or more. If you’re not a Rewards Member, don’t worry – you can easily sign up online or in-store!
The Staples sustainability study also revealed:
- 89% of businesses and consumers believe that eco-friendly products are the same or higher quality than non-eco products.
- 90% of businesses practice some form of eco-friendly activity regularly, including recycling, making energy-efficient choices, and/or shopping for more eco-friendly products. Your office or business is in this 90%, right?
Earth Week Celebrations In-Store and Online
Staples is also doing their part to offer customers greener choices with eco-friendly office essentials. During Earth Week, customers can enjoy 30% off their online purchase of select eco-friendly office essentials. Staples® Sustainable Earth™ products include high-quality surface cleaners, recycled paper products and office supplies that are economical and sustainable for a range of needs.
Mark Buckley, Staples’ VP of Environmental Affairs, explains that “Making daily green choices is not a trend, it is a regular ritual and a priority for our customers. Staples is excited to be a trusted partner through our large sustainable product assortment and extensive recycling services.”

*The findings come from the Staples sustainability survey, conducted by Frank N. Magid Associates, Inc. to further understand the commitment of businesses and consumers to sustainability in the workplace and at home. This 2016-2017 customer sustainability survey was conducted online, among 600 U.S. consumers and 1,300 businesses (small businesses to commercial and enterprises), from December 28, 2016 to January 6, 2017. Those surveyed were the office or household product and service decision-maker or influencer.
