Why make your own non-toxic foaming hand soap?
Who doesn’t love that soft velvety sensation of good foaming hand soap? Well, I’m guilty. But when I learned about some of the nasty toxic ingredients in many common brands. Here are list of some things you do NOT want in your luscious foaming hand soap: triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, parabens, ureas, synthetic colors, diethanolamine (DEA), propylene glycol, propylene oxide, polyethylene glycol, synthetic fragrance, 1,4-dioxane, ethyl alcohol (ethanol), bBenzalkonium chloride (BAC) (read a great post on Awakening Willow for more specifics). Many of these are not only harmful to humans, but get into the water system and can be detrimental to wildlife.
Yikes.
There are some good natural brands that eliminate most of these ingredients — find them on EWG’s Skin Deep Cosmetic Database. But they aren’t necessarily cheap.
So why not save some money, reduce your exposure to ugly toxic chemicals and be easier on the earth and wildlife while you’re at it?

Wow. That is easy. Now if I could just find some good DIY shampoo recipes for my oily hair. Everything out there is for dryer hair than mine. Sigh

Meg – Great video! My sister-in-law Carrie taught me how to make foaming soap – I keep it a little simpler and cheaper by just using 1/3 castille soap and water – no essential oils. And I reused an old foaming bottle! This is something so easy everyone needs to try it – and so good for our waterways! Our septic systems and sewage plants aren’t meant to filter out some of those harmful chemicals in conventional hand soaps! Thanks for sharing!
