LOLA Lots of Love Always: LOLA by friend of the show Priscilla Woolworth is a book for young women about how to live a sustainable lifestyle and make healthy choices that are good for them and the planet at large. Filled with colorful graphics and a wealth of tips, recipes. remedies, and inspiring anecdotes, LOLA deals with what young women really need to know to lead happy, productive and fulfilling lives.
Please Don’t Paint Our Planet Pink: This is a great story for children and their adults that asks the questions, “What might happen if we could SEE carbon dioxide in the atmosphere? What if CO2 were, say, pink?” Read the Green Divas review here and listen to author Gregg Kleinner talk about what inspired him to write this book in this Green Divas Radio Show segment.
Global Chorus: 365 Voices on the Future of the Planet: Okay, so I’m a bit biased about this book since I’m a contributing author (along with known green divas and dudes like Jane Goodall, Bill McKibben, Paul Hawken and even the Dalai Lama), but… Global Chorus is a remarkable, illustrated collection of 365 daily meditations addressing some these questions:
“Do you think that humanity can find a way past the current global environmental and social crises? Will we be able to create the conditions necessary for our own survival as well as that of other species on the planet? What would these conditions look like? Do we have hope, and can we do it?”
[Read the excerpt and hear Editor Todd MacClean talk about what inspired him to make this book a reality.]
The Brown Agenda: “There are few more important stories than how we humans foul the planet and ourselves, often heedlessly. And there are few better placed to tell that tale than Richard Fuller, who has been working for years to show how we can—and, more importantly, should—clean up the earth. The Brown Agenda is the story of an important humanitarian cause revealed in clear and concise prose that is at once deeply necessary and deeply satisfying.”—David Biello, Editor, Environment & Energy, Scientific American

21 Day SuperStar Cleanse: Friend of the show Rainbeau Mars wrote this 21 day “adventure of food, fun, inner reflection, and personal awakening.”
Mars’s gentle, non-judgment tone will appeal to her audience and her reassuring voice and wealth of supportive activities and information will make her cleanse accessible for novices as well as those familiar with the practice. ~ Publishers Weekly
GD Meg and I did Rainbeau’s cleanse and came out the other end (no pun intended) feeling utterly phenomenal. You can listen to us talk about it on iHeart Radio and watch my interview with Rainbeau on YouTube.
Miscellaneous
Help people, planet and wildlife with these nifty gifts. Donate $49.99 or more to Friends of the Earth and they’ll send your giftee a beautiful bamboo bee house. It’s designed to attract mason bees—non-stinging super-pollinators. Or how about helping birds by giving a birdhouse plus some organic bird feed?
Also consider adopting wildlife, planting trees or simply donating in your giftee’s name through organizations like Heifer.org, Defenders of Wildlife, Greenpeace, NRDC, Orangutan Foundation International (OFI) or Amazon Watch.
Solar Charger: This versatile can be used in any setting as long as the sun shines, making it a great gifts for outdoorsy dads. While most solar charging devices provide minimal photovoltaic surfaces, this series of solar film cells can charge USB devices or AA batteries faster than almost any other portable product in the market.
It can charge a cell phone 1.5 times from it’s internal battery and weighs only 1/4 of comparable charging systems (4.9 ounces). A universal USB port allows for direct charging of most micro USB devices, like cell phones, smart phones, and iPods. Could be a great idea for camping! Find it on Amazon.
Eco-friendly ear buds: Listening to music via real wood apparently means optimum acoustics. Earth Bass earbuds are not only noise-canceling, they’re handcrafted using sustainable bamboo (the fastest growing woody plant on Earth). I haven’t tried these (yet) but they seem worthwhile. Like, totally wanna listen to some rad music with these things.
Reusable water bottles: Each day in the US more than 60 million plastic water bottles are thrown away. Most end up in landfills or incinerators, and millions litter America’s streets, parks and waterways. So a reusable water bottle is a gift to the earth, as well as your special green giftee. If you’re careful-ish, consider glass (I had one and have a tedancy to drop things so it ended up in glass recycling heaven. So sad.). They’re available in tons of fun designs. Otherwise, Klean Kanteen or Sigg are great options.
There are so many ways to give, too many to list here. But you get the idea! Have ideas of your own? Leave a comment below!

I like the idea of wooden earbuds but as someone who uses earbuds 8+ hours 5 days a week, anything that plugs into your phone, does not last. I vote bluetooth earbuds. They may not be the greenest but they last the longest!

Well, that’s certainly a valid point Tiffany. Thanks for the suggestion!

Great ideas! I’m a huge fan of Heifer. It’s really fun to give a gaggle of geese or a bunny in honor of someone for the holidays.

I always love donating to organizations on behalf of someone. I just wish they’d stop sending me stuff afterwards for more donations, wasting so much paper! And address label stickers! Who sends snail mails anymore? Sheeesh. Great list of gifts Lynn!

Water bottles would be an easy school/activity fundraiser instead of so much disposable stuff!
