The asbestos disaster.
I had a fabulous opportunity to share our mesothelioma stories, the latest facts and stats, and major obstacles we face to ban asbestos and defend our civil rights in this GD Health & Beauty podcast episode.
How can asbestos still be legal in the U.S. today?
Here’s the truth: Asbestos is responsible for one of the largest man-made disasters in history and our laws have failed us.
More than 15,000 Americans (and over 107,000 people around the world) die each year from preventable asbestos-caused diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer.
But wait, there is more … what if you knew and could prove the chemical industry wanted to pass a law that will enable asbestos imports to continue and never ban asbestos. We CAN—and so can 450 other non-profit organizations.
Well, for more than 100 years, we have known that asbestos exposure leads to horrific diseases, yet more than 31 million metrics tons of asbestos have been used in the U.S. in buildings and consumer products, and can also be found in our homes, schools, workplaces, and even some of the toys our children play with to this very day.
So while Congress should be passing laws to protect public health, our environment, and defending our civil rights—some members are working to pass special interest bills for those who caused this crisis.
History is a great teacher to those who listen. I hope you take time to listen and share this blog and podcast with your network.
