Yes, that is an image of Ringo Starr (drummer for the Beatles in case you live under a rock) on my designated detox smoothie glass. Although he looks a little glum about it all, somehow his presence on my glass makes this a much more entertaining experience.
I was told by more than one trusted friend and practitioner that I need to do some kind of colon cleanse. Oh Boy! I’ve done some successful detoxes in the past, but it’s been a while. So, as often happens, just when I start to ponder what kind of healthy detox to do, I get a press release about a natural detox system by Kaeng Raeng. It is all about vegan, raw and seems like a reasonable program. I inquired and a week later, I opened a box containing all the ingredients for a 3-day beginner’s detox. Hey, if it is Skinny Bitch-approved, a green diva should try it, right?
All of the instructions say you can eat as much raw fruit and veggies as you want during this cleanse. Okay, so I stocked up on organic fruits and veggies, but planned to stick to the smoothies primarily.
Day 1
There are three each of three flavors. I grabbed the pretty pink one. They are all various combinations of freeze-dried fruit, probiotics and soy protein and a few other vitamins and minerals. They recommend using 24 – 32 ounces of water to blend with the powder and suggest varieties of fruit to add in. I bought a fresh pineapple, some fresh mango, organic strawberries and organic bananas.
With fruit added and all that fluid, it makes a lot of drink. I figured I wouldn’t starve. But I forgot how much I love food and apparently eating and chewing. A massive headache sprouted and grew throughout the day. The instructions say, if this happens (due to caffeine withdrawal), it is ok to drink black or green tea. So, I did have 1 cup of black tea.
I was starving by late afternoon and my mood was pretty gnarly. My husband was smart and made other arrangements for dinner, but thanks to a couple of fun friends, who got on the phone and made me laugh (mostly at myself), so I got through the day.
Day 2
Woke up 2 pounds lighter. Nice. Consulted with a healer/practitioner friend in the morning and she convinced me to go ahead and eat some veggie with a little apple cider vinegar with a little oil, herbs. I had the blue smoothie for breakfast and couldn’t wait for lunch.
Lunch was a small bowl of raw spinach, shredded carrots, chopped cilantro and cherry tomatoes. Made a basic vinaigrette using apple cider vinegar, lemon, flax oil, garlic and curry powder. yum. I love eating. Lunch was glorious. I had the second smoothie with more yummy fruit later in the day.
I had another salad for dinner. yum – again, and the last smoothie late. Still felt a little hungry going to bed, but feeling great otherwise!
Gracie appears skeptical if not curious about the ever-present glass of Ringo (as seen in the pic above).
