OK, I’ve got food on the brain. I always do. That’s a foodie for ya! Anyway, it’s that time of year here in The Garden State when the farmer’s markets open. Did you know that there is a community farm market open every day of the week in the Morris/Essex county area — from now until October or November? Here’s a little list that Martine Marcus of Burden Free Foods put together for us:
- Monday – East Hanover & Maplewood
- Tuesday – Millburn
- Wednesday – Jersey City
- Thursday – Livingston & Madison
- Friday – Newark
- Saturday – Boonton, Chatham, Bernardsville & Montclair
- Sunday – Morristown & Summit
For a more detailed listing, visit The State of New Jersey Department of Agriculture Jersey Fresh website.
Morristown opened this past Sunday and The Green Divas were there! What a treat, Burden Free Foods was there offering delicious gluten-free and vegan bakery items – all made from organic or locally-sourced ingredients. Pickles, The Health Shoppe, three farmers were represented as well.
So get out, buy local, buy organic — treat yourself and your family to some freshly grown produce and other locally-produced food. There’s nothing like it. GD Jen

I love organic produce, back home in New Zealand we would often go out on a Sunday and get food direct from the farmers. It’s not much cheaper but the variety and quality are unbeatable.
Unfortunately now I’m living in Singapore and if there is a farm within any reasonable distance I’d be amazed.
It would be great to have a directory on a global scale that let you know where the closest location was!
