Ode to Climate Change Activists and Optimists

Thursday, December 10th, 2009
December 10, 2009
7:00 pmto8:00 pm

Ode2CopenhagenCoverOde magazine founders, Jurriann Kamp and his wife Helene De Puy are still busy changing the world one creative edition at a time.

The Green Divas will be talking to Jurriaan tonight, so make sure to tune in!

We’ll be talking about the special edition Ode magazine that is designed to share some of the inspired solutions for climate change with everyone in Copenhagen (and anyone who cares via FREE digital mag too) this week. 75,000 of The solutions we need now: How the renewable energy economy will halt global warming, clean up the planet, create millions of jobs and make us all healthier, issue will be distributed in Copenhagen and it is also available free online – SolutionsWeNeedNow.org.

Some of the most inspiring and influential minds offer  insights and solutions to the climate crisis (and some of the other challenges clobbering us as well) – Paul Hawken, Bill McKibben, Lester Brown, Al Gore, and others.

This issue offers information on a breakthrough project to use man-made vortices (not sure exactly what this is, but we’ll ask Jurriaan tonight!), up to six miles high, to circulate heat in the upper atmosphere and thus cool the planet. The issue also contains stories on: Dutch scientists who have developed technology to generate renewable electricity wherever saltwater and fresh water meet; ‘carbon farming’ as an innovative and simple form of CO2 sequestration; houses that generate more power than they consume; and new biofuels that don’t interfere with food production.

Please email any questions in advance to: info@thegreendivas.com or IM us during the show.

Tune in and turn on a friend!

Free and Discounted Sustainable Sports Apparel

Monday, October 5th, 2009

IceBreakerImage1If you are anywhere near Union Square NY (Manhattan) this week, you will definitely want to stop in @ Paragon Sports to check out Icebreaker’s line of sport apparel and get a 26.2% discount AND a free pair of their wonderful socks.

This is fabulous, natural apparel — great for running (supposedly doesn’t get stinky, but I haven’t tested that aspect yet). Really great for NY weather and the base layer offers protection for those winds coming off the Hudson.

Icebreaker is an extremely sustainable sports apparel company based in New Zealand. Most of the clothing is made from merino wool and when you purchase Icebreaker products, you get to meet your sheep! Read more about Icebreaker . . .

I have no idea how they will do this, but if you bring your old synthetic running top with you, they’ll turn it into a reusable shoe bag for free!

September 10, 2009
7:00 pmto8:00 pm
September Concert Logo
“After silence, that which comes nearest
to expressing the inexpressible is music.”

Inspired by these words of Aldous Huxley, The September Concert Foundation was born in 2002 on the first anniversary of 9/11. Since then, on each anniversary this message of peace through music has spread further and further.

In 2008, 222 concerts were organized throughout the world. This year there will be close to 10,000 performers. 46 US cities from coast to coast joined the cause,  including Oakland, Philadelphia, Santa Barbara, Forth Worth, Seattle, and Washington D.C.

On Friday, September 11, 2009, across America and around the world, the skies will come alive with music as The September Concert Foundation organizes its eighth annual global day of music for peace. On that day professional and amateur musicians will perform classical music, jazz, rock & roll – all kinds of music in all kinds of venues – from parks and squares, schools, libraries, churches, office building lobbies and plazas to cafés, stores and senior centers.

All concerts adhere to three basic principles:

  • Freedom: All venues and musicians are free to design and organize their own concerts.
  • Equality:  All music and all musicians are treated equally, regardless of gender or background.
  • Accessibility: All music is offered free of charge.

For more information about the event go to www.septemberconcerts.org To learn more about Leo Schaff go to:    www.myspace.com/leosongs.

Tonight Leo Schaff, co-writer (along with Jim Papoulis and Regine Urbach) of one of the songs to be performed throughout the world Give Us Hope,  joins The Green Divas LIVE in the studio to perform and talk about this great event.  Don’t miss tonight’s magical show!

You won’t want to miss this Thursday’s show . . . We have two serious green Internet movers and shakers, co-founders of ecomii.com, Colton Dirksen and Tushar Tanna.  ecomii.com is a wonderful place to find great information and network with other people who are sharing new ways to live greener and healthier.
If you haven’t been there yet, take a few minutes and check it out . . . When you come back, we’ll remind you about the details of the show!

You back yet?

Meanwhile, we’re doing our best to catch up to some of the technical difficulties we’ve been experiencing with the show – some of it is out of our control, but what is within our control, we are addressing as quickly as we can – 1. we now have a live ‘playlist’ you can see from the HGRNJ site so you can see what tunes we are playing; 2. we are working on recording, editing, archiving and podcasting the shows – this might take a little while, but hang in there, it is on the list!
